TORONTO (November 21, 2006) – Honda's quality in the design, engineering and manufacturing of the new 2007 Honda Fit LX premium 5-door hatchback was recognized by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC). The Fit was voted "Best New Small Car Under $18,000" in the 25th annual AJAC Car of the Year awards, and is a finalist for the "Car of the Year" award to be announced in February. With the Honda Fit claiming the top pick in its category, Canadians can confidently rely on AJAC's objective, third-party evaluation process when selecting a small car under $18,000. The 2007 AJAC Car and Truck of the Year competition was conducted last month near Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. More than 70 AJAC members from across Canada were involved in three days of back-to-back test evaluations of 64 individual products in 13 separate categories.
Honda's new 2007 Fit competes in Canada's growing small car market with class-leading feature content, refinement, interior functionality, sporty driving character and the highest levels of standard safety equipment for a vehicle of its size and price. New to the Honda lineup and introduced to meet the needs of first-time new car buyers and those looking for a smaller, affordable car with flexibility for transporting passengers and a wide range of cargo, the new Honda Fit 5-door hatchback provides an ideal fit, as it is designed to be both fun and functional to appeal to Canadians.
Fit is offered in three trim levels with a base DX model, LX and Sport. Some of the key Honda Fit attributes include a full complement of standard safety features such as anti-lock braking (ABS) and both front side and side curtain airbags; excellent fuel efficiency; versatility with a variety of seat configurations for passenger and cargo requirements; overall fun-to-drive character; and stylish design.
The Fit features a 109-horsepower, 1.5-litre engine with a 5-speed manual transmission or an available, first-in-segment 5-speed automatic transmission. Inside Fit has surprisingly large passenger and cargo space for both maximum comfort and utility. Fit features an innovative Magic Seatä, a 60/40 split rear seat that allows the seatbacks to fold down or the seat bottoms to flip up, providing four distinct seating and cargo carrying configurations for a variety of requirements.
